Solution to the Mexican Immigrant Issue 2006

      (reprinted by permission)

Okay-- these people who have crossed into the United States of America from Mexico faced many dangers, it is said.

Organize National Guard units in all of the high-population states where they reside. Train them to be proper citizens. Train them to fight for their freedom, just like our sons and daughters. Send them off to fight side-by-side and to stand and deliver, in their quest for freedom and in support of OUR flag, OUR country and OUR way of life.

They're used to living in danger, risking their lives, and facing challenges, correct?

If they can't qualify for military duty, then assign them to public service duties for the length of a military enlistment. Pay them military or government-service salaries-- INCLUDING tax withholding and FICA for Social Security.

That also just might help resolve some of the financial problems of the Social Security system. We can also re-open military bases and post which have been closed or are scheduled for closing. The taxes generated from their state withholding will boost the state and local economies.

      Anyone raising their hands, yet?

Okay then-- how about something along the lines of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930's? The CCC was a program created in the Depression era to enable young workers to have employment while doing work which benefitted our country as well as learning self-discipline and citizenship at the same time.

In the early days of this country, new immigrants went through an examination period, had sponsors and took Oaths of Freemen, meaning that they had been found to be trustworthy people. This is also a good concept to consider.

But-- since when should someone who illegally entered this country, regardless of their good intentions or their productivity, suddenly jump from "illegal" to "citizen?" What about all of those legal individuals who struggled to obtain a Green Card, and who constructively continue to contribute in a positive and productive way to our society and to our economy? Why not allow these vast numbers of "illegal immigrants" the opportunity to qualify for a Green Card, and stand in line? Why should they suddenly jump to the front of the line and gain full citizenship?

Hopefully, you the reader has found something insightful and positive in this writing.
